摘要: Abstract In view of reported discrepancies concerning antioxidant activity dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), a widely used dietary supplement, the current investigation was undertaken to evaluate properties DHEA in both kidney-cortex and liver alloxan (ALX)-induced diabetic rabbits, as this diabetogenic compound exhibits ROS-dependent action. ALX injected animals following 7 days administration. Four groups rabbits were experiments: control, DHEA-treated diabetic. Our results show for first time, that resulted normalization hydroxyl free radicals (HFR) levels restoration catalase (CAT) glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities near control values, while prevented malondialdehyde (MDA) accumulation normalized reductase (GR) glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH) activities. Moreover, supplementation GSSG elevation accompanied by decrease GSH/GSSG ratio. Although attenuated oxidative stress ALX-induced significantly delayed onset diabetes it did not protect against final development diabetes. conclusion, underscores complexity action DHEA. The data are clinical interest since could prevent deleterious effects ROS delay, or even many diseases. However, pro-oxidant high doses, potential use agent supplement needs careful evaluation.
