摘要: In this review, we highlight the current state of knowledge diverse roles nucleic acid methylation plays in embryonic development orofacial region and how aberrant may contribute to clefts. We also consider role regulation neural crest cell function as it pertains ontogeny. Changes DNA methylation, a consequence environmental effects, have been observed regulatory regions several genes, potentially identifying new candidate genes for clefting opening promising avenues further research. While focus review is primarily on nonsyndromic forms clefting, syndromic are briefly discussed context methylation.
