摘要: A simple automatic method has been tested for biological quality assessment in coastal and estuarine waters. Samples collected routine campaigns along the Basque coast (northern Spain) were analysed by both, a traditional microscopy technique (Utermohl) flow cytometer microscope (FlowCAM). The FlowCAM was operated AutoImage mode (i.e. without fluorescence measurements). Two different procedures carried out two separately (2005 2008). These differed mainly lower size-threshold of particles sampled: 10 μm 2005, 4 2008. degree divergence evaluated, recognizing that Utermohl (as employed here) count differently phytoplankton cells particles, respectively). In general, higher concentrations observed with (although there some exceptions 2005). Relationships between physico-chemical variables studied patterns natural variability identified. However, clear response to nutrient pressure not found. It is concluded potential this deriving cost-effective indicators limited, especially estuaries, due high interference suspended material. Further studies incorporating measurements may be more promising. standardization highly recommended.
