摘要: The conservation status of invertebrates is usually lesser known than that vertebrates, and strategies to identify biotopes preserve invertebrate diversity are typically based on a single surrogate taxon, or even the use vertebrates as surrogates. Aim this research illustrate method for biotope prioritisation can be easily adapted different animal groups geographical contexts. A two-step protocol proposed basis multidimensional characterisation species vulnerability. Firstly, vulnerability estimated from rarity measures which include range, abundance specialisation. Then, these values used rank biotopes. was applied here tenebrionid beetles, butterflies, birds mammals Central Apennines, montane area high concern South Europe. This study provides evidence importance including insects in decisions, because poor surrogates insects. Conservation efforts reserves included mostly focused woodlands considered particularly important. However altitude open crucial both tenebrionids preservation such kind would beneficial also vertebrates. approach demonstrates (1) insects, (2) rarity, vertebrate conservation, obtained veritable amount data hidden specialised literature museum collections.
