摘要: Abstract An analytical solution for a confined, elliptical lens of light water is perturbed to test the linear stability elongated warm-core rings. The asymptotic expression when eddy's radius “large” (three times deformation or more) used suppress inertial oscillations and render problem easily tractable. It found that, in this large-scale limit, independent its size dependent only on eccentricity. critical threshold ratio semi-major semi-minor axes equal 1.8. More circular eddies are stable all infinitesimal perturbations while more ones unstable at least mode 3 (egg shape). In present, reduced-gravity formalism, baroclinic instability absent, mechanism purely frontal nature (presence curved outcrop). With an active stratum, processes can probably set even moderate eccentricities. suggested that instabi...
