摘要: The freshwater resources of India are currently experiencing an alarming decline in fish biodiversity due to several factors and as a result, sizeable portion fresh water fishes have been categorized threatened. This emphasizes immediate need for initiating research actions alternative management techniques protect these aquatic systems. One such option that has potential ecosystem from numerous threats is the creation sanctuary (FAS) within protected area network. Though similar conservation practices well established terrestrial marine ecosystem, however, work on systems very slow negligible. In present communication we conceptualized approach developing FAS network based our observations bodies selected wildlife sanctuaries Northern success stories some other countries. this study assessed diversity areas India. assessment indicated harbor 28.26–31.13% fishes, which threatened areas. Apart Indian Major Carps, Tor putitora, Chitala chitala, Pangasius pangasius, Clupisoma gerua, Ailia coila, Aorichthys aor, Wallago attu, Rhinomugil corsula, Ompok pabda, Ombok pabo etc. were important species encountered waters. various issues related including objectives, approach, tools, implementation discussed towards saving endangered germplasm resources. Approaches, tools modus operandi proposed could be utilized by countries region.
