Community Conservation in Punta Laguna: A Case of Adaptive Ecotourism Management

摘要: Punta Laguna is a small Yucatec Mayan community situated in the northeastern part of Yucatan Peninsula. This has more than 30 years experience conservation through development activities related to ecotourism. During this period, consecutively employed different ecotourism management approaches: (1) family business, (2) cooperative organization, (3) entrepreneurial tourism by an outside agency, and (4) organization with know-how. By describing characteristics each experience, we reveal how learned from learning led them modify exclusionary behaviors, increase importance local decision-making, implement attitudes towards managing their initiative. process been characterized complexity conflict among members other stakeholders. The also influenced external disturbances such as hurricanes, global economic crises, pressures resulting regional development.
