摘要: Formaldehyde (FA) is a commonly used chemical in anatomy and pathology laboratories as tissue preservative fixative. Because of its sensitising properties, irritating effects cancer implication, FA accounts probably for the most important chemical-exposure hazard concerning this professional group. Evidence genotoxic carcinogenic properties humans insufficient conflicting, particularly regard to ability inhaled induce toxicity on other cells besides first contact tissues, such buccal nasal cells. To evaluate exposure human peripheral blood lymphocytes, group 84 laboratory workers exposed occupationally 87 control subjects were tested chromosomal aberrations (CAs) DNA damage (comet assay). The level workplace air was evaluated. association between genotoxicity biomarkers polymorphic genes xenobiotic-metabolising repair enzymes also assessed. estimated mean 0.38 ± 0.03 ppm. All cytogenetic endpoints assessed by CAs test comet assay % tail (%TDNA) significantly higher FA-exposed compared with controls. Regarding effect susceptibility biomarkers, results suggest that polymorphisms CYP2E1 GSTP1 metabolic genes, well as, XRCC1 PARP1 involved pathways are associated genetic subjects. Data obtained study show potential health risk situation (0.38 ppm). Implementation security hygiene measures may be crucial decrease risk. information provide new data care programs governmental agencies responsible occupational safety.
