摘要: Children born preterm and of very low birth weight have an increased incidence learning difficulties, but little is known about the specific nature their cognitive deficits underlying neuropathology. We hypothesized that vulnerability to hypoxic, metabolic, nutritional insults would lead reduced hippocampal volumes in memory because role hippocampus this domain cognition. Neuropsychological magnetic resonance imaging methods were used investigate hypothesis adolescents (< or = 30 wk gestation, n 11) full-term (n 8). The group had significantly smaller bilaterally, despite equivalent head size, showed certain aspects everyday memory, both on objective testing as indicated by parental questionnaires. also a deficit numeracy. previously been unrecognized, prevalence neurologically normal children striking.
