摘要: Peatlands represent the largest and most concentrated carbon pool in terrestrial biosphere, their dynamics during Holocene have had significant impacts on global cycle. In this Introduction paper, we provide an overview of contributions presented Special Issue peatland dynamics. We also a brief history current status peat-core-based research Finally, identify discuss some challenges opportunities that would guide near future. These include need to fill data gaps increase geographic representations peat accumulation records, better understanding lateral expansion process improved estimate area change over time, developing regional histories estimates, projecting quantifying overall net balance changing world.
