摘要: This hybrid piece, combining scholarly inquiry in several disciplines (from bilingualism and literary theory to visual art, cultural anthropology, psychoanalysis) with the genre of personal essay, explores concept multilingual identity creativity art. Establishing parallel phenomenon 'literary translingualism' exemplifying most salient features translingual writers, I coin 'artistic translingualism.' The essay is focused on life art an immigrant artist, Marc Chagall, analyzes his paintings within framework three constructs: duality, ambivalence, liminality. complexity identity, specifically Chagall's, illuminated by my family's Jewish Russian roots history, amplifying historical human context for understanding exile, multilingualism, creativity.
