摘要: The physical strength and energetic cost of egg capsules belonging to 10 species Hawaiian Conus were determined in the laboratory. Capsular material was found contain 5442 cal/g as opposed 6238 for ova. Capsules accounted up 50% total reproductive energy devoted Both puncture resistance proportional allocation increased with increasing development time. Development time be positively correlated size. Strong produced by large ova may have evolved a result selection improved protection embryos from predation stress during protracted period development. function size reflects producing stronger capsules.
