摘要: BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Pneumonia is a leading cause of hospitalization and readmission in children. Understanding the patient characteristics associated with pneumonia readmissions necessary to inform interventions reduce avoidable hospitalizations related costs. The objective this study was characterize rates, identify factors costs among children previously hospitalized pneumonia. METHODS: Retrospective cohort at 43 hospitals included Pediatric Health Information System between January 1, 2008, December 31, 2011. primary outcome all-cause within 30 days after hospital discharge, secondary pneumonia-specific readmission. We used multivariable regression models RESULTS: A total 82 566 were (median age, 3 years; interquartile range 1–7). Thirty-day rates 7.7% 3.1%, respectively. Readmission higher P = .01). Readmissions occurred 8% but accounted for 16.3% all hospitalizations. CONCLUSIONS: are common pneumonia, especially young those chronic medical conditions, substantial
