摘要: Objective. One of the most common tools for studying prosociality is dictator game, in which allocations to one’s partner are often described terms altruism. However, there less consensus regarding motivations driving these allocations, may represent either emotional concern others (compassion), adherence social norms fairness (politeness), or both. Method. In this paper, we apply personality psychology study behavior examine discriminant validity distinct prosocial constructs from Big Five and HEXACO models relation wealth. Results. Across four studies (combined N = 798) utilizing both hypothetical incentivized designs, found that politeness—but not compassion—aspect agreeableness, as well honesty-humility, uniquely predicted within their respective models. Conclusions. These findings contribute a growing literature indicating standard game measures “good manners” concerning fairness, rather than pure compassionate motives, have important implications how paradigm used interpreted psychological research.
