Corporate Social Responsibility in the German Pork Industry: Relevance and Determinants

摘要: Due to manifold scandals meat production and processing has been in the spotlight of public concern over last decades. CSR can safeguard an enterprise against risks following e.g. food safety, environmental or social incidences a sector. To reap full benefit their involvement it is essential for firms communicate activities stakeholders credible way. Given this background, objective paper find answers questions: what extent pursue German companies activities, factors determine communication regarding latter, how do those evaluate standardization? The results our study are based on standardized survey 68 North Rhine-Westphalian pork value chain. data analysed using descriptive as well uni- multivariate methods. findings show that sector already active area CSR. They also however, not yet great extent. level kind performance vary between depending firm characteristics (e.g. size). Main motives engage differentiation from competitors consideration stakeholders’ requirements. In addition analysis provides some indication doing good be at expense well. A standard could inform way about companies’ evaluated very heterogeneously. complementary implementation voluntary more demanding quasi-obligatory minimum standards solution problem.
