摘要: Pertussis, or whooping cough, caused by the obligate human pathogen Bordetella pertussis is undergoing a worldwide resurgence. The majority of studies this are conducted with laboratory-adapted strains which may not be representative species as whole. Biofilm formation B. plays an important role in pathogenesis. We side-by-side comparison biofilm-forming abilities prototype laboratory and currently circulating isolates from two countries different vaccination programs. Compared to reference strain, all examined herein formed biofilms at high levels. structural analyses revealed country-specific differences, United States forming more structured biofilms. Bacterial hyperaggregation reciprocal expression biofilm-promoting -inhibitory factors were observed clinical isolates. An association increased biofilm augmented epithelial cell adhesion higher levels bacterial colonization mouse nose trachea was detected. To our knowledge, work links for first time bacteria advantage animal model. propose that enhanced capacity contributes their persistence, transmission, continued circulation.
