摘要: This study is aimed at determining the prevalence of HIV among pregnant women in Rumubiakani, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The purpose was explained to attending Antenatal clinic (ANC) Obio Cottage Hospital, Rumubiakani. Those who consented were given questionnaire. Blood samples also collected from 200 and screened for antibodies using Determine HIV-1/2 Stat Pak rapid strips. overall found be 3.0% (n=6). Of which 4(66.7%) due infection by -1 while 2(33.3%) HIV-2. Higher 8.3% age-groups 20-29 years compared 1.3% recorded >30 years. Participant had never any form formal education highest (3(4.0%)) those only primary level zero (0(0.0%)). attested having gone through secondary tertiary levels 1(2.5%) 2(3.3%) respectively. adults 3(4.0%), illiterates traders 3(15.0%), singles 4(3.3%) free thinkers 3(10.7%). seropositivity significantly associated with behavioral variables such as sex commercial before (8.3%), no screening (7.1%), awareness non-sexual route transmission (4.7%), condom use (4.2%) management symptoms (4.2%).
