摘要: Background Depression is very common in people with age-related eye disease. Our goal was to determine if self-care tools plus limited telephone support could reduce depressive symptoms patients macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy. Design A single-blind randomized controlled clinical trial conducted at Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital Montreal, Canada. Participants Eighty participants were recruited. Methods To be eligible, must have had either late stage retinopathy, least mild symptoms, and visual acuity better than 20/200. Half the intervention arm half delayed intervention/usual care. The consisted of large print written audio incorporating cognitive-behavioral principles three 10-minute calls from a lay coach. Eight-week follow-up data collected by telephone. Main Outcome Measures The primary outcome 8-week change as measured Patient Health Questionnaire-9. Secondary outcomes included anxiety, life space self-efficacy. Results The baseline mean logMAR 0.37 (SD = 0.20), Questionnaire-9 score 9.5 (SD = 3.9) indicating moderate symptoms. After adjusting for imbalances acuity, reduced 2.1 points more usual care (P = 0.040). not associated secondary (P > 0.05). Conclusions Self-care coaching led modest improvement Additional research on how maximize their effect necessary.
