摘要: OBJECTIVE To determine whether typing methods can discriminate among Staphylococcus haemolyticus isolates. DESIGN Molecular epidemiological evaluation of S. isolates obtained from patients hospitalized on a hematology service and in surgical intensive-care unit (SICU). SETTING A large Midwestern teaching hospital. INTERVENTIONS None. RESULTS Over 22 days, was isolated five the service. Isolates four had same unusual antibiogram biotype. Ribotyping, restriction endonuclease digestion plasmid DNA (REAP), whole chromosomal analysis by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) confirmed that these were identical different fifth patient's isolate 6 control In second cluster, 11 eight SICU similar antibiograms biotypes. By REAP ribotype analysis, identical. However, PFGE indicated only two shared common strain. CONCLUSIONS Antibiograms or biotyping may if results tests are unusual. Many clinical be differentiated ribotyping, PFGE. some all methods, suggesting they have been transmitted nosocomially.
