摘要: Placer gold-mining on the West Coast of South Island New Zealand provided a field test-bed for investigating impacts fine inorganic suspensoids (clays) streams not subjected to other abuses. The suspensions clays (40% between 0.55 and 1 pm in diameter) seeping into from gold mines were colloidally stable. clay particles attenuated light streamwater with near maximum efficiency leading severe degradation stream optical quality. Turbidity increased median 2.4 NTU upstream often >100 (median 15 NTU) downstream
