The authors highlight centrality NCO DoD using examples from Joint Vision 2010/2020, Secretary Defense's Office Force Transformation, Service documents. They examine identify core characteristics underlying levied supporting network. then analyze several required challenges potential impacts should U.S. networks fail achieve performance or collapse under attack. illustrate these Operation Enduring Freedom Iraqi Freedom. relies heavily collaboration information sharing creates radical challenging set requirements for infrastructure. Current near-term leave significant gap between network infrastructure envisioned NCO. Without this infostructure, projected benefits will not be realized any dependent suffer. conclude providing recommendations mitigating some identified capability gaps vulnerabilities.
