摘要: We review transient creep and semibrittle behavior of crystalline solids. The results are expected to be pertinent rocks undergoing deformation in the depth range 5 20 km, corresponding depths focus many major earthquakes. Transient data for at elevated temperatures analyzed but poorly understood because lack information on processes which, low moderate pressure, likely nature. Activation energies high effective confining pressure much higher than those found atmospheric tests which thermally-activated microfracturing probably dominates rate. Empirical equations extrapolated 200° 600°C, stresses from 0.1 1.0 kbar, times ranging 3.17 × 102 108 years. At temperatures, appreciable strains may take place physical significance is question flow mechanisms have not been determined. purpose this paper stimulate careful research important topic.
