摘要: This work analyzes a new and very subtle kind of security threat that can affect large-scale cloud-based IT service infrastructures, by exploiting the computational resources their component data center to waste as much energy possible. The consequence these threats ranges from increased costs in bill, penalization for exceeding agreed quantity greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions, up complete denial caused electrical outages due power budget exhaustion. We analyzed different types such attacks with potential impacts on consumption, modeled behavior quantified how current energy-proportional technologies may provide attackers great opportunities raising target facility emissions costs. These efforts resulted simple model some parametric reference values be used estimate impact also presence large infrastructures containing thousands or millions servers.
