Generalized transduction by phage P22 in Salmonella typhimurium: I. Molecular origin of transducing DNA

摘要: Abstract P22, a temperate phage which grows on Salmonella typhimurium, is capable of carrying out generalized transduction in this host. The transducing particles are the same size as P22 but instead DNA they contain bacterial was synthesized before infection. Further, molecules isolated from have molecular weight DNA, 27 × 106 daltons. Examination formation under conditions S. typhimurium recombination system (rec) and/or (erf) defective indicates that neither these general systems necessary for particles.
