摘要: Objective: To increase breast cancer (BC)awareness, screening services, and educationfor local underserved women.Design: Mayo Clinic launched a twice-month-ly, half-day outreach clinic composed of3 women physicians, nurse medicalinterpreters.Setting: Community Adult Literacy LearningCenter in Rochester, Minnesota.Patients: Underserved from immi-grant minority backgrounds Rochester.Interventions: The offered clinical breastexaminations,breastimaging,follow-upappoint-ments, assistance accessing government paidhealth coverage programs, educational classes,transportation vouchers, follow-up surveys.Main Outcome Measures: We assessed thenumber of patients seen, number mammo-grams, sonograms, patientsdiagnosed with BC, interpreters,quantity transportation vouchers resultsof surveys.Results: Between December 1, 2005 July31, 2009 there were 177 patient visits (includ-ing 46 visits) provided to 131 womenon 58 days spent the clinic. One hundredthirteen (86.3%) had mammograms,sonograms, or both. Screening identified onewoman diagnosis cancer, 5 withsymptomatic cysts 3 whounderwent biopsy after suspiciouslesion was imaging. Onehundred twenty required aninterpreter for initial examination andmammogram visit. Transportation voucherswere used by 51 women.
