摘要: The plateau uplift of the Rhenish Massif in Federal Republic Germany was object a multi-disciplinary research program which started 1976. comprised geological, geophysical, geodetic, petrological, geochemical, geomorphologic, and age-dating surveys together with attempts to model numerically. This introduction summarises problems as they appeared at beginning during starting phase program. Special emphasis is placed on following subjects: foreland Alpine collision front its relation tectonics Upper Rhine Graben graben Lower Embayment; shear heating vs. hot spot hypothesis; interaction between uplift, rifting, volcanism mantle heterogeneities, asymmetries west east Rhine.
