摘要: Langmuir probe measurements of the winter diurnal behavior electron density (Ne) and temperature (Te) at 1000 km high latitudes are presented. The data represented by contour plots Ne Te on a grid geomagnetic latitude local time. time period studied is November 1, 1965, through February 12, 1966. distribution characterized zonal structure where auroral oval transition region between midlatitude polar zones. in zone exhibits quasi-steady state most night, both increase value to an afternoon maximum. dark decays until midnight after which ionization increases toward daytime level. region, oval, shows enhancements suggestive particle flux sources. In general, dayside contours do not correlate with contours. Limited comparisons summer indicate strong seasonal effects pattern unusually large values zone. Characteristic troughs appear nightside for seasons. Possible sources that would be consistent observed patterns considered.
