摘要: ABSTRACT: Context:Adults who live in rural areas of the United States have among highest smoking rates country. Rural populations, including Appalachian adults, been historically underserved by tobacco control programs and policies little is known about their effectiveness. Purpose: To examine end-of-class quit success participants A Tobacco Cessation Project for Disadvantaged West Virginia Communities place residence (rural urban area Greater Charleston). Methods: This collaborative program was implemented 5 counties consisted 4 intervention approaches: (1) a medical examination; (2) an 8-session educational behavioral modification program; (3) 8-week supply pharmacotherapy; (4) follow-up support group meetings. Findings: Of 725 participants, 385 (53.1%) had successfully using at last cessation class they attended. Participants lived lower rate than those Charleston (unadjusted odds ratio [OR]= 0.69, 95% confidence interval [CI]= 0.48, 0.99), even after taking into account other characteristics to influence (adjusted OR = 0.58, CI 0.35, 0.94). Conclusions: would do well build upon positive aspects life while addressing infrastructure economic needs region. End-of-class may usefully be viewed as stage on continuum change toward long-term success.
