摘要: Abstract Electric sails are propulsion systems that generate momentum via the deflection of stellar wind particles through electric forces. Here, we investigate relative merits and light driven by radiation pressure for F-, G-, K- M-type systems. We show originating near M-dwarfs could attain terminal speeds ~ 500 km/s minimal payload masses. In contrast, typically rendered ineffective late-type because is not sufficiently high to overcome gravitational acceleration. Our analysis indicates better interplanetary travel than in proximity most stars. also delineate a method which repeated encounters with stars might cumulatively boost ≳ 0.1 c , thereby making them more suitable interstellar travel. This strategy can be effectuated reaching 10 5 over span Myr.
