摘要: Introduction In developed and developing countries young people are at increased risk of obesity. Obesity is associated with chronic disease including Type II Diabetes, cardiovascular diseases cancer. Body mass index (BMI) commonly used to measure The aim this study was describe the prevalence overweight among medical students in Nepal according sex, ethnicity diet (vegetarian/non-vegetarian). Methods Approval for obtained from institutional research ethical committee. Participants were recruited Manipal College Medical Sciences, Pokhara, Nepal. BMI (kg/m 2 ) calculated using height weight. Data analysed Microsoft Excel (Windows 2003) SPSS 16. Results Of 311 participants 179 (57.6%) Nepalese, 97 (31.2%) Indian 35 (11.2%) Srilankan. 72% males 28% females. 80.1% non-vegetarians 19.9% vegetarians. Overall 28.7% subjects overweight; 33% Nepalese participants, 17.5% 20% Srilankans participants. 34.4% men 6.9% women overweight. 26.9% non-vegetarian 25.8% vegetarian Conclusion Nepal, gender, being prevention should focus on physical activity diet.
