摘要: Abstract The chromophores of rhodopsin and bacteriorhodopsin are believed to result from an electrostatic interaction between the protonated Schiff base retinal amino acid side chains. It has been proposed ESR measurements on (Shirane, K. (1975) Nature, 254, 722–723) model studies using tryptophan (Ishigami, M., Maeda, Y. Mishima, (1966) Biochim. Biophys. Acta 112, 372–375) that is one charge transfer involved tryptophan. Our re-examination this work does not support existence a charge-transfer complex. However, additional similarities system bateriorhodopsin were observed. concluded further in area may yield information about nature protein chromophores.
