摘要: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the ontogeny of mammalian olfaction, particularly as it relates to infant–mother interactions in rat and other animals during nesting period. It focuses on three vital social behaviors—(1) orientation, (2) huddling, (3) suckling, whose expression is strongly influenced by olfactory stimuli. These behaviors, though differing their motor properties time onset, share an important feature concerning development control. At first, a broad range odors can influence expression. The narrows with time. Ultimately, only particular odor helps either elicit behavior or determine where will occur. presents studies that have identified isolated some features mother her pups are critical for conditioning nest. correlations between behavioral neural development, model way stimuli might gain control over behavior.
