Is the three year breast screening interval too long? Occurrence of interval cancers in NHS breast screening programme's north western region

摘要: Abstract Objective: To report the detection rate of interval cancers in women screened by NHS breast screening programme. Design: Detection computer linkage records held centres North Western Regional Health Authority with cancer registrations at regional registry. Setting: Authority. Subjects: 137421 between 1 March 1988 and 31 1992 who had a negative result. Results: 297 invasive were detected. The expressed as proportion underlying incidence was 31% first 12 months after screening, 52% 24 months, 82% 36 months. Conclusion: third year approaches that which would have been expected absence suggests three screens is too long.
