摘要: Nationally, death rates from prescription opioid pain reliever (OPR) overdoses quadrupled during 1999-2010, whereas heroin increased by <50%. Individual states and cities have reported substantial increases in deaths overdose since 2010. CDC analyzed recent mortality data 28 to determine the scope of increase whether were associated with changes OPR This report summarizes results that analysis, which found that, 2010 2012, rate for 1.0 2.1 per 100,000, declined 6.0 100,000 5.6 2012. Heroin significantly both sexes, all age groups, census regions, racial/ethnic groups other than American Indians/Alaska Natives. among males, persons aged <45 years, South, non-Hispanic whites. Five had rate, seven decreases, 16 no change. Of 18 statistically reliable (i.e., based on at least 20 deaths), 15 increases. Decreases not rates. The findings indicate a need intensified prevention efforts aimed reducing types opioids while recognizing demographic differences between OPR-using populations. Efforts prevent expansion number users who might use when it is available should continue.
