摘要: Abstract We use sub-daily gage records from montane headwater channels in the Luquillo Experimental Forest of Puerto Rico (tropical rainforest) and HJ Andrews Oregon (temperate to characterize differences discharge pulses (rapid, high-magnitude fluctuations) determine whether characteristics differ with respect drainage area between these two regions. The study sites have different precipitation regimes runoff generation mechanisms, we quantify sites. assessment pulses, which are defined as flows that higher than one standard deviation above historical mean flow at each site, represents a novel approach characterizing flashy events streams using high temporal resolution datasets. Our analyses indicate clear difference regions, pulsing more frequently, for shorter periods time, magnitudes streams. also how change increasing Differences pulse metrics include an increase number normalized magnitude magnitude, decrease kurtosis site. These results there is no attenuation Luquillo. In contrast, indicating some area. pulsed implications ecological processes by transporting sediment, biota, organic matter, likely altering stream substrates, biotic communities, matter retention times.
