Personalising disaster: Community storytelling and sharing in tourism

摘要: In this working paper, we explore how personal reflections and the collective memories of a community are practiced mobilized as occasions for tourists to connect with share in disaster. Using case Hurricane Katrina New Orleans, suggest that city where tourism has long been vital economic, social cultural make-up place, power sharing emerged through narratives, artefacts experiences that, decade after disaster, woven into tourist experience by individuals such tour guides, curators exhibitions, street artists, participants anniversary ceremonies. Personal on event inform narratives about disaster feed memorialization Katrina. The paper does not seek repeat wellrehearsed dark tourism, but critiques post-disaster culture memorialisation deeply inherently lived fluid nature.
