摘要: Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) usually is manifested as discrete foci of coagulation necrosis the deep periventricular white matter in human neonatal brain. During examination brains 116 infants utilizing an oil red O technic on gelatin-embedded frozen sections, 25 cases PVL were found with typical coagultion necrosis. Three morphologic varieties lesion could be demonstrated. In first type, rather than being restricted to zone, necrotic extended throughout entire zone cerebral matter, even out just beneath cortex. The subcortical lesions appeared short duration, whereas older always present nearer ventricle. second type presented linear, some-what serpentine zones radiating into matter. A third consisted a variegated irregular which was poorly delineated from more normal tissue. Diffuse pallor nature still not clear, associted severe lesions. Although pathogenesis unknown, it suggested that these new beyond would apt result diffuse loss and hence mental retardation if child should survive.
