摘要: Abstract The formation of quaternary ammonium iodides possessing a fluorine-containing chain has been investigated. Reactions tertiary amines, such as i -PrMe 2 N and n -BuMe with I(CH ) (CF m 3 ), ( = 2, = 5 7) do not cleanly yield the anticipated halide salt, instead elimination occurs [RMe NH]I (R = -Pr, -Bu) CH CH(CF are formed. This is confirmed by crystallographic characterisation [ which found to adopt micellar-type arrangement in solid state. Increasing spacer chain-length = 3 does result desired salts, N(CH )]I, = 3, 7). Quaternisation MeBuN((CH C 8 F 17 1-iodooctane gave asymmetric salt fluorinated alkyl chain, -BuMeOctN((CH )]I.
