摘要: Iceland has a unique geology and dynamic natural landscape which long attracted large number of tourists to the island. Owing geological processes are still shaping Icelandic landscape, combined with country's raw nature, is often referred as an open laboratory in geosciences. Geotourism geoparks relatively new concepts within tourism. However, both have grown rapidly over past decade. evolved partially response need minimize negative impacts mass tourism geologically geographically situated tourist environments, whilst at same time providing catalyst for sustainable rural development. This paper attempts assess compatibility geoconservation development geotourism by exploring challenges potential outcomes Iceland; identifying analysing various geopark development; proposing strategic planning approach management vulnerable environments. The results indicate nine distinctive sites development, each presents major challenge using heritage basis informing area's ‘ABC’ components such that visitors locals given holistic appreciation area based on understanding its geology. further emphasize importance Only when managed manner likely provide long-term improvements developments areas.
