摘要: The goal of introducing robots into everyday use has led to their reconceptualization as social technologies, for which interacting with people is a fundamental and necessary function. Robot sociality in this context generally defined set individual properties the artifact, such human-like appearance or ability read cues. In paper, we propose an alternative view robot emergent relational property interactions between its context, actively constructed by designers, users, other actors affected robots. We illustrate perspective through example PARO, commercial commonly used eldercare, analyzed series observational studies processes design laboratory eldercare facility. Our analysis shows how technology actions sense making various situated dynamics interaction particular institutional contexts. first describe factors rationale that influenced PARO's laboratory, then discuss scaffolded users nursing home midwestern United States. go beyond typical focus on one-on-one unit human---robot interaction, incorporate broader component successful implementation society.
