摘要: In marine sediments archaea often constitute a considerable part of the microbial community, which Deep Sea Archaeal Group (DSAG) is one most predominant. Despite their high abundance no members from this archaeal group have so far been characterized and thus metabolism unknown. Here we show that relative DSAG marker genes can be correlated with geochemical parameters, allowing prediction both potential electron donors acceptors these organisms. We estimated 16S rRNA Archaea, Bacteria in 52 sediment horizons two cores collected at slow-spreading Arctic Mid-Ocean Ridge, using qPCR. The results indicate make up entire population certain to ~ 50% total community. quantitative data were 30 different geophysical parameters obtained same horizons. observed significant correlation between content organic carbon (p < 0.0001). Further, co-variation iron oxide, dissolved manganese (all p 0.0000), indicated direct or indirect link cycling. Neither bacterial genes, nor did any other major donor acceptor measured. Phylogenetic analysis gene sequences reveals three monophyletic lineages apparent habitat-specific distribution. study support hypothesis are tightly linked directly indirectly involved cycling and/or compounds. provide molecular tool assess environmental samples enrichment cultures.
