摘要: Packaging preserves food quality and safety, but can determine a relevant part of the environmental impact associated with consumption. A vegetarian burger has been selected as case study to evaluate, through LCA, performance product packed novel biobased polybutylene succinate (PBS), in comparison traditional fossil based packaging (mainly polypropylene). The use PBS instead conventional plastics primary would still increase burger. These results should, however, be considered perspective: is an early stage development, far from full industrial scale. Moreover, some first conservation shelf life studies indicate that could extend products thus presumably contribute reduction waste impacts.
