摘要: Abstract The barrier properties of a poly(aniline) membrane may be tuned by electrochemical control the polymer’s oxidation state. We have exploited this behavior to electrochemically modulate permeation two probe molecules differing charge through supported membrane. trans-membrane flux was measured for neutrally charged phenol and negatively 4-hydroxybezenesulfonate as function polymer state, which controlled stepping potential applied film from reducing increasingly more oxidizing values. fluxes were enhanced when poised in half-oxidized, emeraldine state compared that reduced, leucoemeraldine Additional pernigraniline produced an 4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate over phenol. responses these are explained combination oxidation-induced swelling electrostatic effects due variable charge. At high potentials, modulation disrupted hydrolysis decomposition. This work demonstrates modified produce controllable properties.
