摘要: Purpose To promote the rational use of scarce research funding, scholars have developed methods for systematic identification and prioritization health needs. The Radiation Oncology Institute commissioned an independent, comprehensive assessment needs advancement radiation oncology care. Methods Materials used a mixed-method, qualitative quantitative social scientific approach, including structured interviews with diverse stakeholders, focus groups, surveys American Society (ASTRO) members, exercise using modified Delphi technique. Results Six co-equal priorities were identified: ( 1 ) Identify develop communication strategies to help patients others better understand therapy; 2 Establish set quality indicators major procedures evaluate their in delivery; 3 best practices management toxicity issues cancer survivorship; 4 Conduct comparative effectiveness studies related therapy that consider clinical benefit, (including life), other outcomes; 5 Assess value 6 Develop registry. Conclusions our knowledge, this is only methodologically rigorous field oncology. Broad dissemination these findings critical maximally leverage impact work, particularly because grant funding decisions are often made by committees on which highly specialized disciplines such as not well represented.
