摘要: Abstract Experiments were performed in which protein turnover was measured by incorporation of 18O from H218O into protein. Since proteolysis causes the carboxyl group amino acids and this acid leads to with peptide oxygen labeled, can be determined quantitatively. The rate during first 5 hours after growth found about 22% per hour. Spores contain an amount that allows suggestion average turns over two or more times sporulation. To examine possibility exchange synthesis, Bacillus licheniformis cells grown through eight generations, a 200-fold increase mass, on medium glucose plus mixture labeled groups. contained oxygen, appropriate corrections, at atom cent excess similar added acids. It is concluded neither transport nor synthesis involve mechanisms lead significant loss oxygens.
