摘要: Abstract This work represents the first attempt to use anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) analysis for characterization fabric Plio-Pleistocene sediments in southern Apennines Italy. The area examined, Sant'Arcangelo basin, has undergone mild deformation during Pleistocene. Analysis was carried out on 182 cores sampled at 15 sites unmetamorphosed, weakly deformed clays and marly clays. data identify a clearly depositional-compactional origin even though partial contribution tectonic AMS is also recognizable many sites. results presented here are compared with existing structural sedimentary data. In particular, close consistency found between overall orientation lineations compressional directions indicated by previous meso-structural analysis. We suggest that detected arises from limited overprint strain effects related episodes primary, sedimentary, fabric. interpretation allowed us resolve bedding attitude where clayey units appear homogeneous field, hence appropriate correction concomitant paleomagnetic analysis, estimate relative degree each sampling site.
