摘要: De-crying the typological approach in much of teaching morphology, from outset her career Marvalee Wake advocated a synthetic, mechanistic and pluralistic developmental evolutionary morphology. In this short essay, I do not evaluate Wake's contributions to our knowledge morphology caecilians, nor viviparity, both which are seminal substantive, examine role as mentor, supervisor collaborator, but assess broader conceptual development evolution science. One earliest morphologists take on board concept constraint, she viewed constraint explicitly relation adaptation diversity. Her science was hierarchical - measure form function phylogenetic context; seek explanations at developmental, functional, ecological, levels biological hierarchy; integrate those other levels. The explanatory power thus practised allows inform biology theory, paves way for integrative has long championed.
