Alcohol Dependence and Abuse Diagnoses: Validity in Community Sample Heavy Drinkers

摘要: Despite the widespread influence of alcohol dependence syndrome concept on major nosological classification systems, little work has been done to test validity in community samples. In addition, numerous questions have asked about current definitions abuse. We examined cross-sectional DSM-IV and abuse 936 household residents randomly selected screened for elevated drinking. investigated by testing association a set seven "criterion" variables, external diagnostic criteria, with diagnoses. Results indicated that diagnoses were significantly associated all criterion variables when compared those no diagnosis, even though subjects had drinking cases mild. contrast, did not show pattern diagnosis.
