摘要: Findings from a research program in oral cancer at Regional Cancer Centre, Trivandrum, Kerala, India are reviewed. There is evidence of immune impairment patients. Plant lectins being investigated for specific binding characteristics various precancers and different histological subtypes cancer. Tobacco alcohol have been identified as the major risk factors The chemopreventive potential carotenoids retinoids evaluated leucoplakias. Beta-carotene vitamin A heavier doses induced remission leukoplakias 25%-50% trial participants who continued with their tobacco habits during trial. could be maintained lower doses. Less than 20% our patients were initially seen localized stages. Various community-oriented programs prevention primary secondary cancers evaluated. These include antitobacco health education, self-examination, examination by trained volunteers. results radical radiotherapy surgical salvage radiation failure also discussed. 5-year disease-free survival rate 34% reflection advanced stages disease when seen. Salvage rates surgery failures encouraging.
