Characteristics of Skilled Option Generation in Chess

摘要: Abstract We tested the hypothesis that skilled decision makers generate satisfactory options as first ones they consider, thereby avoiding need to perform extensive generation and evaluation. A total of 16 chess players were divided into groups high medium skill ratings. Four different positions presented, task subjects was next move he played, articulating every thought of, no matter how weak. Only a small proportion legal moves worth playing, but majority initial generated good ones, with mean rating 3.59 on 5-point scale.
